May 2003: Erica Hoffman, owner of The Symphony Group, completed a certificate program in Organization Development from Georgetown University.

March 2003 to present: The Symphony Group has created an ongoing partnership with Northrop Grumman's internal Organization and Workforce Development team to design, develop, and lead a leadership development program for Northrop Grumman's emerging technical leaders who are a part of the Electronic Systems Sector's engineering and manufacturing professional development program.  The 18-month journey involves leadership development, career management, 360-degree feedback, mentoring, and targeted action-learning.  The first pilot group started the program in October '03 with great success.

November 2003:The Symphony Group facilitated a strategic planning session for the board of directors of the National Maritime Heritage Foundation.  The team revisited their mission and goals which were identified at a meeting facilitated by The Symphony Group back in 2001.  The session enabled the group to create a tactical action plan for empowering their executive director, fundraising, and building a volunteer membership base.

July 2003: The Symphony Group continued its work with Leadership Anne Arundel by facilitating a strategic planning session for their board of directors.  The interactive session enabled the board to clarify their vision, mission, and values as well as create a tactical action plan for achieving their goals.

May 2003: Erica Hoffman presented at the annual conference of the Association of Fundraising Professionals held in Baltimore, MD.  Her presentation covered the process for identifying an organization's Vision, Purpose and Values and how to align the organization accordingly.

December 2002: The Symphony Group facilitated a team development program for USinternetworking's marketing team.  The session focused on re-energizing and re-focusing the team for the new year, assimilating new members into the team, enhancing accountability and initiative among team members for overall team goals, understanding the team's current performance and identifying strengths and improvement opportunities, and receiving feedback on team leadership.

June 2002: The Symphony Group conducted a leadership development course for Northrop Grumman’s Electronic Systems Sector managers. The course, Helping Others Adapt to Change, is part of Northrop Grumman’s Transitioning to Management program for newly appointed managers. The course teaches participants how to effectively lead and manage during times of change and transition. Trehe content specifically focuses on what people need during times of transition: Structure, Information, and Support. The interactive course included experiential exercises, role-plays, and case-studies to help the leaders practice effective change-leadership behaviors.

June 2002
The Symphony Group led a 2-day strategic planning retreat for the International Organization of Masters Mates and Pilots based out of Linthicum, MD. Prior to the retreat, individual interviews were conducted with a cross-section of the team in order to create an agenda reflective of the different individual perspectives within the group. Throughout the 2-day retreat, a Symphony facilitator led the MM&P team through a process to identify the overall purpose, values and vision for the organization, as well as a tactical action plan for achieving the organization’s short-term and long-term goals.

March 2002
The Symphony Group supported Northrop Grumman's Organization and Workforce Development team in the delivery of their "Transitioning to Management" course, a required course for all new managers. The course includes a variety of topics including situational leadership, coaching skills, delegation, and managing change. The 3-day course was attended by approximately 30 managers of the Electronic Services Sector and was co-facilitated by both Symphony and internal facilitators. The Symphony Group has created an on-going partnership with Northrop Grumman in the support of their leadership training efforts. "Transitioning to Management" as well as other leadership-focused courses will be rolled out over the next several months.

February 2002
The Symphony Group facilitated a strategic planning retreat for Northrop Grumman's Organization and Workforce Development/Diversity team. The result of this session was a list of strategic priorities and a targeted action plan for meeting the development needs of the 25,000 employees that the Workforce Development team serves. In addition, the workforce development team re-examined their team behaviors and business processes to ensure alignment with the overall corporate vision and values. During the 2-day session, the team created a new consulting methodology to continuously guide their behavior and decision-making process.

February 2002
The Symphony Group continued its support and involvement with Leadership Anne Arundel by conducting another planning session for their Program committee. As a result of this meeting, the program committee is launching two public forums for the citizens of Anne Arundel County. One will be focused on educational issues, and one on the tax cap. These forums will continue the momentum created from the strategic planning session facilitated by The Symphony Group back in October-in which the idea for the first public forum was born. The first forum, focused on safety in Anne Arundel County, was held on January 23, 2002.
